This 1956 Ford Thunderbird was purchased by the current owner’s mother in California in 1975 and has remained in the state with the family since. It is powered by a 312ci V8 paired with a three-speed Fordomatic automatic transmission, and it is finished in Raven Black over black and white vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a body-color removable hardtop, a black soft top, a rear Continental kit, power-assisted brakes, power steering, a power-adjustable bench seat, power windows, and an AM radio. Recent work has included servicing the fuel system, replacing the battery, and installing a rebuilt four-barrel carburetor. This Thunderbird is now offered on dealer consignment with manufacturer’s literature, service records dating back to the 1960s, historical photos, spare parts, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in Raven Black (A), and features include a body-color removable hardtop, a replacement black soft top, a Thunderbird nose emblem, chrome bumpers, solid front fenders, fender vents, auxiliary parking lights, a fixed antenna, rear fender skirts, and tail fins. The hardtop was refurbished in 2003.
Body-color 15? steel wheels wear full covers and are mounted with 205/75 Travelstar tires, which were installed in July 2025. A body-color Continental spare wheel assembly is mounted on the rear bumper. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is supplied by power-assisted drum brakes at each corner. The shocks were replaced and the brake system was overhauled in 2010.
The power-adjustable bench seat is upholstered in black vinyl with white pleated inserts and is accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Amenities include engine-turned metal trim, a Town & Country AM radio, an analog clock, a floor-mounted shifter, power windows, and a locking glovebox.
The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames an Astra Dial instrument cluster housing a sweeping 150-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer indicates 80k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The P-code 312ci Y-block V8 was factory rated at 225 horsepower. Work in July 2025 included draining and cleaning the fuel tank, replacing the battery and fuel pump, and installing an electric secondary fuel pump and a rebuilt four-barrel carburetor.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Fordomatic three-speed automatic transmission. A transmission fluid leak from the shift shaft was noted in a July 2025 service invoice.
The serial number shows that the car is a 1956 Thunderbird built in Dearborn, Michigan, and equipped with a 312ci V8. Further decoding of the trim tag reveals the following information:
- 40A – Thunderbird
- A – Raven Black paint
- XA – Black and white vinyl interior
- 17D – April 17th production date
- SK – San Jose sales district
Service records dating back to the mid-1960s are included in the sale.
